Cuil may have a hard time bouncing back because too many web users associate them for bad results, but they can if they will. Launching with so much hype was a very bad move, people expected too much and came out disappointed big time. I personally check every new search engines that would come up - Find.com, mse360.com, deepdyve.com, msdewey.com - because it's good to know that there are alternatives/options available out there in doing web search.

PayPerPost has been going down for quite some time now. And like you said, only insurance companies even bothers to put up their sites for reviews there...

Sure the team at Cuil might be brilliant, but that doesn't mean they are any good at actually building a startup. Cuil launched and now nobody is using their service - how will they come back from this.

AOL's digg clone was Netscape which did die but never really took off. And Googles Second Life clone was Lively which again never took off - it was also never highly promoted.

In regards to Flock, I have never used it before but I heard they were doing alright.

Wasn't there also some kind of Google second life clone that got abandoned this year? Wasn't there also a Digg clone on AOL that got abandoned? What about Flock, as long as we talking about the walking dead?

I'm sure there's at least 5 more, but I can't think of them.

BTW. disagree on Cuil. The team behind it is brilliant and I'm sure that they'll come up with something cool (pardon the pun) to keep it going. Check out a stanford podcast with one of the founders.

Agree that Cuil and PayPerPost were just doomed from the beginning.

Disagree with Yahoo! though. I think they are a solid second player in the search space.

Prosper was a cool idea, but they sucked at implementing it. Lending Club is taking over prosper in the P2P lending space in the US. Zopa is still the king in the UK.
