Vagabonding

I’ll admit I’ve still got a few pages left to read on this one.  But I thought I could still give it a quick review.

I held off buying this book.  I had seen it many times in the boookstores, but each time I was either in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Glasgow or somewhere other than my hometown of Canberra.  So it was difficult to bring myself to buy a book about travel when I was doing it live.

But, after returning to Canberra to launch my latest startup, I felt it was time to pick up what has become the classic guide for long term travel.

This is not a long book.  Its also not a guide book.  What it is, is an introduction to what I believe is an art – the art of longterm travel.

If you’re currently sitting in a cubicle or slaving away at a checkout, longing for that “sometime in the future”  moment to arrive where you can set off on a round the world adventure, this is the book for you.  It will have you salivating at the mention of far off destinations, and the relative ease it takes to actually drop what you’re doing and pack your bags.

If I hadn’t bought the Kindle version of this book, I would be donating the book to my younger sister who, after just finishing High School is about to have her “gap” year (the term gap year isn’t really thrown around in Australia).   I recommend all high school leavers read this book.  Even if you don’t plan on travelling straight away, its nice to know what you’re options are.
